HARDENING JAWS OF TENDERNESS

the duo with paulina rewucka and rémy gouffault started in 2023. the first links and explorations have been built through several improvised sessions. a few concepts such as contrast, gravity, tremoring, and breathing were starting points helping deciding on the aesthetic. in the foreground, the electro-acoustic composition is highlighted by the dry movements, elasticity and deconstruction of the body. but the desire arises to connect two expressions without hierarchy, leaving plenty of room for silence and space.

over the course of several sessions of work, research and experimentation, a number of questions have been raised, shaking up the playing concepts on which this duo is based. tempo, writing, composition and improvisation are closely linked.
time, that major and indefinite element, is put to the test.

the project presents a form nourished by various contrasts, between improvisation and precise writing.

hardening the jaws of tenderness is a project based on exploring the complex relationship and connections between two art forms, and two people on stage. recent political events have shown the monstrosity of human beings, and influence the intensity and choices in this piece. the deformation of the faces loses the host between emotion, play and expression.

throughout the performance, the form blends the concepts of trembles, loops, improvisation and composition. the reciprocity in the process of creation is here an important tool and statement: a choreographed sequence is a starting point for a musical part, and vice versa.

Paulina Rewucka : concept, movement
Rémy Gouffault : concept, drums, electronics
